I don't have my computer hooked up to my stereo (yet), so listen to the movies 
through my headphones (a good comfortable set... <grins>).  I didn't have to 
do anything special to get my sound working properly.

Have you tried messing with the sound card settings under YaST/Control Center?  
It sounds like the DVD playing may be highlighting an issue with your sound 
system that may have been there before, but I could be wrong - my sound card 
doesn't do surround sound.  hmmm  what about the effects mode on the 
stero/speaker system?  On my older stereo, I could put it into "phantom" mode 
which would mute the center chanell...  Just a thought...
