Hi Chris,
Have a look at another interesting site for comparison shopping:
http://www.cmsmatrix.org/
And I have a fondness for e107; I have played with it (i.e. installed on my own server, and tried out a few things), but I haven't run it in a longer term production environment. So my impressions are a bit superficial:
* one of the fastest / best performing systems out there
* feels clean / not overweight, easy to get productive with it
* one of the better choices for single site admin or small, highly trusted group of admins
* pretty active community around it
one thing I find maybe a bit of a disadvantage:
* mostly driven/controlled by one person (just like PhpNuke), although judging by his interactions with his users, he seems to be a much nicer guy than the guy from PhpNuke.
Another interesting system is PostNuke (which seems to be developed by a core group, rather than an individual), but it is a bit more difficult to get into, than e107. It has an rather elaborate permissions model for the various modules and what you can do with them. So, if spreading out permissions between many site administrators, editors and moderators is a priority (like larger community sites), PostNuke is pretty neat.
Yet another system, which caught my eye is Drupal. One of the neat things about it, is that it seems to support the Blogger API, so using it with Mozilla blogging plugins could be one of the killer app features for someone with a need for convenient blogging in addition to other CMS stuff. Haven't played with it yet, but it sure looks intriguing that way.
and a rather high end system, complex, capable, yet free, is typo3; It feels like a commercial system. Downside: single developer, and may not be that easy to run on a shared hosting plan; better to run on your own server, since it needs quite specific packages on the server.
Just curious, what other systems (than e107) have caught your attention? I've been (loosely) following CMS systems for a couple of years now, so I am curious, which one's have caught your attention.

Ya, I was quite delighted to have stumbled onto that site ;)
I especially like the "demo" aspect of it all--a great help in deciding which route to go for CMS.
To that end, has anyone played around with the e107 (www.e107.org) CMS? I've been trying out a few and have narrowed my selection to include e107, but was wondering if any CLUGgers(?) had any experiences (positive or negative) with it?
Thanks,
Chris
