I've converted people just based on the fact they're tired of getting screwed 
by every new virus/worm/trojan that comes out. If you teach them to avoid 
using root the chances of getting a virus that does significant damage is 
pretty low in comparison. Of course this doesn't stop social engineering and 
you have to be careful they don't think it's a license to be careless, but 
it's an improvement.
