Hi Sam, I'm just getting into Java as well, so I can at least help with the first two.
Books: - Head First Java by O'Reily - maybe a little to basic for you but plenty of fun for a computer book and a decent enough overview. IDEs: - Eclipse - (open source - what's there not to like) It's getting a lot of attention from the Java community and moving fast. - Kate - (open source) my favorite right now ....shows you where I'm at with it though :) - Oracle JDeveloper 10g - free as in beer (just got a great review in the latest Linux Format 9/10). It's not just for Oracle stuff. Works with any database (not just Oracle's), built in UML tools etc. A friend who's been a Java Programmer for years now swears by it. Haven't tried it but it looks interesting. - Netbeans - Sun's free as in beer IDE, don't know much about it. I suspect it is pretty limited. - Borland JBuilder Foundation (free as in beer). Don't know much about it. I suspect it is pretty limited though. cheers, Marcel On Sat, 2004-10-16 at 23:48, bogi wrote: > Hi > Figured i would spend some time learning a new language, and that one would be > java.
