i usually use Bonnie or Bonnie++ in a script that runs it using a large file
set across different areas of the file system. something like:
foreach of a list of paths scattered across the partitions
switch to the current path
10 times
run bonnie with a large fileset
redirect output to a log file
tends to work fairly well for showing up repeatable disk media issues. not so
great for heisenbugs =)
