I got another guinea pig...that makes six now...in case people are counting! Cute little female rescue pig with a pudgy little body that is black and white...sort of almost penguin like! Hmmm....maybe I should name her Tux? Anyway...that wasn't what I wanted to announce. With the encouragement of a couple people to get involved and some who have seen or heard my ideas...I am starting up a couple of projects related to the FLOSS community. One is under development right now (read: get all my ideas together in one place) and the other one should be starting soon (read: still have to flesh out some ideas a bit). The first is the "Trinity Desktop Project." The long and short of it is this. I want to showcase FLOSS products/projects that have a presence across the Linux, MacOS and Windows environments (hence the name trinity). I would ideally like to showcase products that are the same across the three OS's but would entertain some that are similar to a project on two environments or that have a broader appeal (i.e. PDA conduits for their desktop application). The best example I can think of for the primary focus is OpenOffice.org. Available on Linux, MacOS & Windows (Solaris as well) and essentially the same across all platforms. The second project is currently going under the name "MOSCRAT." That stands for "Materials for Open Source Courseware And Training." Yes...a bit cheesy I know, but like I said...still under development. Basically I am looking to develop the resources to allow the creation of courseware, application cheat sheets (like those 5-10 dollar job's you see in stores) and Computer Based Training (CBT) products. I do envision this being a documentation farm but documentation will well have a role. Who knows? I am not sure what these projects will be licensed under and how or even if these will flesh out at all. I would welcome any suggestions/criticisms/ideas/etc that people have to offer. If you are interested in participating that would also be excellent. I will be setting up an e-mail address or two over the next couple days and will post them to the list.
