Hey Gang,
With all of this interest in telephony I am curious about some stuff and was wondering if any of you know about this. I think the possibilities with Skype are pretty cool. I like the idea of SkypeOut that would enable you to call out to a regular phone system.
This has got me thinking of an internal network. Does anyone know of a way to do this kind of communication between any computers within a network... directly? So instead of using Skype's servers as a middle man, is there a way to plug in someone's IP for example? Obviously Skype does not support this but I am wondering if there is something comparable.
I feel that ICQ and just about any other instant-messaging service work the same way. I think it would be more efficient if you could just go peer to peer with this rather than through a communications server.
Here, try this http://qnext.com/. I had it loaded on my computer about 6 months ago and tried their telephony and it seemed to work. Don't know if they are Linux friendly, but I like the idea of them trying to bundle everything together. Would be interested to here what people have to say about it.
