(http://nomachine.com). The client is free and there is a GPL server out there
as the libraries are GPL, though I do plan to support the project by purchasing
their server in the very near future. Far faster than vnc inside an ssh
tunnel. It looks like it uses a modified ssh server for the communication part
so it is probably as secure as ssh is or is not at any given time. Works best
if running kde on the client side.
There are also windows client versions which suits me just fine while at work.
For vnc, I have had the best experience with the tightvnc server/client.
For the gent who wanted a mini-howto, here is a mini-mini howto, assuming that you are using the vnc session :1
I believe most vnc sites have a similar howto on their faqs
ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] -L 5901:vncmachine:5901 xtightvncviewer -quality 6 -compresslevel 9 localhost:1
For the windows users out there, I highly recommend cygwin (http://cygwin.com).
This allows you to ssh to your windows box and set up an ssh tunnel.
Hope this helps,
Ciao,

Quoting Kin C Wong <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I would like to remote access a Linux box. I have seen a number of people do it but not sure on what you are using. I am aware of VNC but it does seem to lack security. I have heard of SSL but am unsure of some of the pro's and con's of the various methods.
Would someone be able to enlighten me as to where I should be looking for additional information.
