It was an upgrade to the version that came with Pro-Mepis, So I'm pretty sure 
it's system wide as far as I can tell.

I did get the upgrade right from firefoxs website.

Actually it seems like I'm ok after all. There was no uid or gid listed for 
warren, and only the instance of warren was a directory:  /home/warren 
with .firefox as a file in it. I used your commands and all things look 
normal :) Thanks for your time Szemir! It's a relief knowing I wasn't 
hacked...hehe
