So I got Kubuntu on my laptop last night. Or if you prefer Ubuntu "Hoary".
After some help from Travis, I got my video resolution fixed up. Everything looks pretty now. Travis also walked me through some basic apt-get stuff. I got sshd installed as it only had the OpenSSH client installed by default. I was a little disappointed to find that OpenOffice was the office suite of choice. I am a KOffice fan and it seems sacrilegious to have KDE and no KOffice. I went into Kynaptic then and was pleased to see meaningful categories for the software in the Ubuntu repositories. After a quick search, KOffice was not to be found. After a Google search I found that it is not included... period. It sounds like they are considering putting it in but it's not there now. So am I stuck with installing this from source? Is there a better way? Also, Ubuntu's hardware detection didn't correctly configure my sound card... no surprise there, it's finicky on my ToughBook. Can anyone give me a heads-up on where I might look to find out how to configure sound in a Debian-based Distro? I have the proper device and settings recorded so I just need the config tool. Thanks in advance, and thanks again Travis!
