You can't get Xtreme with the old system, but the new system won't hit the top 
speeds that I regularly get on large downloads.

I see it like this.  If we say that the docsis is 100% when coupled with the 
xtreme service, and 0% without, I'd put the old modem at something higher 
than 0%.  That means that unless I'm paying for the xtreme service, I'm 
better off with the old modem.  Maybe I'm 50% maybe i'm getting 120% maybe 
it's only 3%.  I can't compare because I didn't go with xtreme.  Regardless, 
the cost is the same for the new and the old modem without xtreme, and in 
that situation, the old modem is faster.  So I'm sticking with the old modem.  
I went with the business class cable modem because I needed the static IP.  I 
pay more for that, so I'm certainly not going to up the bill even further so 
I can have xtreme when switching modems meets my needs.  That $120/yr is 
better spent on flowers/manicures/etc for my wife...
