Just an idea: Automounting.
Does the dvd auto-mount? How about the audio-cd?

IIRC audio-cds should _not_ be mounted while playing with a media
player, but I am not sure about video DVDs (logically, video DVDs
would have to be mounted, but I haven't actually tried this.)
