I also do it myself as well.  I have a small web/mail hosting business
(basically covers the cost of my connection) and paying someone else to
do it does not make sense (in my case).  The up side is that it is not
too hard to figure out.  The O'Reilly book is really good, I still refer
to it now and again for some of the more obscure stuff.

What I would do in your case, is to set up DNS in home lan, then see if
you feel comfortable with it.  There are enough people here who can help
(William got me started in bind many years ago, thanks for that sample
zone file btw).
