Heres a total shot in the dark - you don't have -kde. Heres my flags for my no-gui server...maybe it'll help. USE="-X apache2 bash-completion cli crypt cups curl foomaticdb gd -gnome -gtk -gtk2 hardenedphp imagemagick imap -kde libwww maildir milter mysql pear perl php postgres -qt samba sasl ssl session truetype usb x86" I just did an emerge -uva world and no x stuff came up. PHP has a dependancy on xpm by default. That could be it. Thats in my package.use file.
