Anyway, I suspect the problem is not with Grub, but hardware related. Try turning off "Plug'n Play OS" in the BIOS Are you *sure* this is a stock kernel? Make sure there are no performance patches of any kind (archck/beyond, ck, realtime-lsm, etc.) What kind of system is this? Also, some performance enhancements from the mm branch have been merged, you may wish to disable these (the low latency preemption stuff comes to mind).
