My ISP is actually called EFirehose(.net). They're a "division of Community Networks(.ca)". They provide fixed wireless solutions to rural Calgary areas. It's not satellite, but its not wired. I used to work for them, so I know *exactly* what they use. For those who are interested in the components/assembly/technology behind the recievers, feel free to email me offlist. It's actually quite interesting.

So yeah, the regular package gives you 25GB/month. Which is pretty much the only thing you can get unless you spring for the big business bundles which cost way more. But, he has a few people on his list that are *huge* bandwidth leeches (the average customer uses 1.4GB/month. OMG!). Some of them go over to the 70's!!! It's an extra $5/GB too! I happen to be one of these people. I often run things like Flashget (Windows, ick!), BitTorrent, and Limewire at full blast. Now, it's not the actual amount thats the problem, but that it kills their access points. Because its wireless its totally different then something like Cable or DSL (RTS and packet overflows). When he told me the average usage a month I broke out laughing and I said something to the effect of stupid n00bs! He laughed back and said "Yeah, well, stupid n00bs is how we make our money :) I like n00bs!"

So yeah the few people who are huge leaches, cause major problems. For the last month or so I've been distrohopping like a madman so I've been downloading like crazy. He said try and download at night because then there's nobody on and it won't kill their system. So I tried that, and yup, it worked better - no problems. One day though I forgot and did a big torrent during the middle of the day. He's like "You're killing the network, what are you doing!".. Ooops :-/ So I immediately turned it off and set it to go at night. Thats when hes like "Tell ya what - you run all your downloads between 12-6am and I'll give you 40gb a month at no charge". Can ya beat that? I think not!!!

So to make a long story short I still pay $39.95 a month for 2Mbps internet and 40GB of transfer :D

Cheers,
MB

Yeah... I've been wondering what ISP you use, too!
