don't forget about cacheing...  did you restart the master domain 
controller?  Remember Windows forces an election, and it's a bit of a 
free for all on which box will be considered the master name server? 
(don't remember the specific title right now), unless you have an actual 
domain server.  (i.e. win2k, with or without AD should be elected over 
an XP box, or a simple workstation like a basic samba box).

You would have had to force that election again, I think...
