Eeck! That's Windows thinking dude. I've been using a 64 bit distro. for a long time now with no problems. I'm not sure what hardware you're trying to use, but all the open source drivers work under 64 bit, and so do proprietary drivers like the ATI and Nvidia drivers. It will also run all the 64 and 32 bit packages. The only issue is running 64 bit software with 32 bit plugins. The workaround is to install 32 bit versions of software like Firefox and mplayer so that you can use the 32 bit plugins.
