Like anything else, you get what you pay for. I have several domain names, some .com and some .ca -- I have found that Network Solutions is not the cheapest but editing the DNS records is in your control and a breeze. However, they don't handle .ca -- as a result I have dealt with other vendors, some who have limited or no interface to edit the DNS records and you have to resort to phone calls or emails for change requests.
