I'd like to forgo the usual flame war about certifications if possible... I'm scheduled to take my Linux+ in a couple of weeks. I've been making good progress through my book and actually learning a heck of a lot about the deeper stuff that I've never bothered to learn about before. I've taken some practice Linux+ tests on the internet and seem to be on track. However, I sat down last night to take some of the courseware assessments that came on the CD with my book and I am now concerned.
The stuff that's on the courseware CD is really...well...non-technical. The assessments consist of questions like "which distro is better for advanced users" and "is security a business consideration or network consideration". I was expecting (and the practice tests I've taken bear this out) technical questions like "which command can be used to activate another partition" and "where can you find information about how much memory the kernel is seeing" and stuff like that. You know...actual yes and no technical questions rather than the opinion-based stuff I'm seeing in the courseware. So I'm kind of worried now that the actual Linux+ test is going to be more like the coursware assessments than the practice tests. I'm wondering if anyone on the list has taken their Linux+ cert and can share (either on or off list) information about which way the testing went for them. Thanks!
