Came across a link today that talked about how the Movie Industry has embraced Linux:
http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2006/10/unique-relationship-between-hollywood.html It's a bit of a short article, but it includes a link to another page: http://linuxmovies.org/software.html On this page is a VERY impressive list of commercial and Free packages that are out there. The usual suspects are there (Renderman, Blender, etc.), but there are a surprising number of other options there I've never heard of before. Some of them look simply amazing (like the MakeHuman project - http://www.dedalo-3d.com/index.php). There are even links to some audio tools available for us Linux folks as well.
