I was told, and it seems to be true, that old (flat) modem would not preform
with the shaw extreme and the nitro packages, offering a lot higher
bandwidth. Now, independent of the previous, the new (standing) modem
(Motorola SB5100) is capable of performing with the higher bandwidth, but i
may add, that the signal quantity and quality coming through the cable can,
and will have significant effect on the performance of this modem. Signal
levels above +18Db and the modem will start dropping traffic and mangling
packets, below -7Db and your speed will suffer a great deal, so i got me a
2way booster and an attenuator to balance the fluctuations of the signal,
usually associated with moisture, like snow or rain. Needless to say, this
modem is dockbook compliant, the old one was not.
Cheers
