I am making a legal, fair use copy, and having an issue. I purchased Casino Royale and I like to make a backup copy as my grandkids can be rough on the disks. I keep the original to ensure I don't end up with a useless DVD. I encountered errors during the backup process. I have found this now with a couple of the recent DVDs I've purchased.
I am running Kubuntu 6.10, 32 bit (all the latest updates) on an Intel dual core, 64 bit machine with 1 Gb of memory and a 250 Gb HD. I tried DVDShrink under wine and after several minutes it just quits and crashes. I didn't check any logs or such for this. I tried K9Copy with Keep Original Menus checked and with it unchecked. The error appears different in each case. () With the menu box unchecked I get "An error occured while running DVDAuthor: STAT: VOBU 39 at OMB, 1 PGCS" In both cases it takes some time and processing before the errors occur. Are these DVDs just not copyable?
