Friends, for a while now I have tried to compile a 2.6.xx kernel to boot
off a root fs using ReiserFS. AT first I thought this was because I was
using a SATA harddrive and somehow the kernel was unable to see it as
such--however (BWT I'm using Slackware 11) I was able to boot up using
the Huge26.i kernel and modules on the extra CD of 'Slack 11. But for
the life of me, I have been unable to build one of my own. I started
with the .config file that comes with the modules package and was very,
very careful about what options I enabled (to be on the save side, I
used make oldconfig). Still no dice. When I boot up the same message
comes up: Kernel panic, unable to mount root fs on unknown block device.
I tried making my own initrd (following the intructions to the letter),
increading the ramdisksize, etc. and still no cigar. Several people on
the net encountered the same problem as me; but there seems to be a lack
of answers...
