Define working.

If you have Java installed, and the env variables set up, it works fine. 
 Untar it and you're done.  

Are you trying to integrate it with Apache.  If so, how are you 
integrating it?

Tomcat is a pain to set up period.  I find that most Java server apps 
make you jump through a whole lot of hoops to use them.  They seem to 
work well when they ARE running, but that's where the challenge is 
(especially if starting from scratch).  Of course, I don't use Java too 
often so my comments probably aren't worth much.

You can d/l a vmware applet with Tomcat pre-installed/configured if that 
helps...
