I don't use any of the pretty wobbly effects, but I do enjoy working in KDE. KDE is nice and peppy on my laptop, and I would like it to stay that way. For me KDE is more convenient than any other desktop GUI I have used. If you are a screen fan, there is a desktop that was inspired by it. It is called ratpoison.
