Great advice, you sold me on that MB. This way I can also use some DDR2 ram.

Thanks

I have no experience with this board or chipset. I do however use and
recommend the Asus M2N32 WS Professional. This is a workstation class
board so it may not always be appropriate for a server. I do like the
number and variety of expansion slots (2 PCI-E 16x, 2 PCI-E 1x, 2 PCI-X
and 1 PCI. Newer 3Ware cards use PCI-E.

For Linux compatibility I have found the best results when using a
vanilla kernel greater than or equal to 2.6.18. Red Hat/CentOS have
seriously customized kernels (lots of patches and back ported drivers
and fixes) so all I can say is YMMV.

Stock Ubuntu Edgy+ seem to work well with this board. I have a Ubuntu
Dapper install with a custom kernel at home (also with a 3Ware SATA RAID
card) that has been working well for nearly a year.

I am looking at a new server mb for a client, which will need at least
one PCI-X slot for a 3ware SATA controller. Does anyone have any
experience with the Tyan S3850G2nr ATX with the Broadcom HT1000 Chipset?
I dont want to have to struggle with any drivers for the mb or video so
was wondering if anyone knows if this board, chipset etc would work out
of the box with a new CenOS install?
