After the last meeting there was a discussion between 3 or 4 of us about
protecting network gear from lightning strikes that travel along the cat5
cables. I was browsing through XS Cargo NE yesterday and they have a "Laptop
power centre" made by Radio Shack for $5. It's a power bar with in/out phone
and RJ45 jacks as well. The box claims it is not intended to protect against
lightning, but it's probably better than nothing and could probably be
hacked to increase the ~100 joule or so network protection it provides out
of the box.  It's not on their website, so I can't provide a link to it.
