I missed Shawn's orginal posting (must ease back the spam assassin settings).

Just to clarify terminology DID - incoming connection from PSTN->VoIP. I'm not
sure whether you are asking for a 'complete package' incoming and outgoing,
which I don't have experience with.

I have previously used http://www.didww.com for 'renting' a Calgary number. I
wasn't a heavy user and found their service to be OK.

The service is $5 setup, plus $5 per month for incoming calls. You register a
SIP URI (ie. sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) with them and they forward the incoming
call to your voip phone (which can be anywhere in the world, or a hard or soft
phone).

If you don't have a voip account with someone already then you can register for
a free one at many places, personaly I use FreeWorldDialup.

The 'didww.com' service does not provide for outgoing calls. This would have to
be arranged with your 'dial tone' provider, or with another service. They also
have an option of forwarding incoming calls to a normal PSTN number for a flat
rate fee. Useful if you need an incoming remote/overseas number but don't have
a VoIP setup I guess.

Personally I use http://www.iconnecthere.com as a prepaid service for outgoing
calls. Which I can use by dialing the '**334' quick dial within FWD, or from
the normal PSTN with a 1-866 number. After entering account/pin number I can
dial anywhere in the world at reasonable rates. Not the most convient way, but
we a light phone users so it doesn't mattery much.

Finally another thing to note (if you're really cheap like me) you can
effectively get a 'free' DID (pstn to voip) by using the Sipbroker dial in
numbers.

The one for Calgary is 775-2208, at the prompt enter either a enum (sip number
that looks like PSTN number) or a prefix to one of the many voip providers it
supports. For FWD it would be '*393' followed by FWD account '123456'.
