That is not the message that should be conveyed. For best results the drive should probably be formatted to a more linux friendly file system anyway. | I have a Seagate FreeAgent 320MB that I bought (for backups) on sale | ($85) around Xmas time at MemXpress. I haven't yet plugged it into my | Windows or Linux box. Just laziness. | | If you think I understand haldaemon or plugdev, guess again. Not sure what that has to do with anything. | Then I read about the following problem (though there are some fixit | solutions that work for some): | | Problem: | http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/07/seagate-freeagent-drives-not-down-with-linux/ | Solution(s): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=494673 | | I expect I can plug it into my Windows box without problems, but doing | it will be proof of the pudding. And who knows, maybe I will be lucky | with Ubuntu. The solution in the ubuntu forum requires some work on your part. Interestingly, one of the guys on the Ubuntu forum has a sig that sums up my perspective perfectly: "The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell" - --Confucius I no longer care about catering to the user who takes no personal responsibility. If someone chooses their OS based on trivial demands, then so be it. The strength in FLOSS software is that the developers have the freedom to do what is right without having to worry about meeting sales targets. | Gary | ----- Original Message ----- | From: "Shawn" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>> | To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>>; "CLUG General" | <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>> | Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2008 1:12 AM | Subject: Re: [clug-talk] Ubuntu and USB drives | | haldaemon did the trick.
