for the price I'd just go to MRO or active and get the right part.
the price for these is probably less than $5.00.

As for combining parts.  Resistors add in series where as capacitors
add in parallel.  For capacitors in series its like the following:

1/ (1/c1 + 1/c2 + ... ) to calculate the effective capacitance.
