Anyone using a decent webcam with K/ubuntu? If so, can you share the make/model of the webcam and any hoops you had to jump through?
I dug out my OLD Logitech webcam (circa 2002) and plugged it in. dmesg tells me it's detected, but when I try to use it I'm getting odd kernel problems (complete freeze/lockup, recursive failures (??), etc.). Looks like support for this cam is spotty at best. I'm also looking for any tips on software to use with the webcam. My immediate purpose is to simply have the cam grab a snapshot to file every second or so, and do some processing on the resulting image. I want to see if a) I can capture an image with reasonable resolution using little memory, and b) see if I can identify obstacles in the picture. I can do the latter without the web cam, but it's kinda pointless if I can't get the webcam going. Thanks for any tips.
