You might be able to get past some of the flash limitations by putting a
SD card into it and just leaving it there.

Back in the spring I bought a 16GB class 6 SD card for my N800.  The
card just lives in the N800 and gives me more room than I use.  It's a
handy way for me to backup my camera (also using SD cards) when I'm away
for awhile.
