You may also want to try Thinktel (www.thinktel.ca), also based out of
Edmonton. They do LNP as well.
I personally have not had much luck with link2voip - both quality and
support issues, although things change sometimes...

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to give link2voip a try. I'll let
everyone know if it works out.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a voip provider that will allow
me to transfer my current cell phone number to their service. I'm
looking for a company that offers standard SIP service so that I can
use Ekiga, or other sip-based software packages rather than having to
buy an ATA or use proprietary software. I was planning on going with
Callcentric (www.callcentric.com), but after submitting the paperwork,
they told me that they were unable to port my number.
www.link2voip.com is based out of Edmonton, you might have an easier time
porting numbers with them.
I have asterisk running in a VPS that connects to them - mostly for testing
and learning,
For softphones SJ Phone works well, they have some unresolved issues with
XLite not registering properly. I'm not familiar with Ekiga.
While I don't have much time logged through them to be commenting on, I
haven't had any issues yet with softphones connected directly to their
servers. Calls through my asterisk VPS are rough at times, but I've
attributed that to the VPS environment as the provider's default install has
cronjobs running at specific half-hour intervals - lining up almost exactly
with any noticed call issues. All the VM's doing something and getting a
fair share of the CPU at the same time doesn't bode well for a realtime
application running on one. But since it is mostly a test environment -
it is okay for my purposes.
