Hi All, I just thought I would share some potentially interesting information.
I have been in the process of a multi-year infrastructure refresh and have pretty much replace all of the desktops/laptops for now. Now due to the old management...we have pretty much had to stick with Windows for various reasons, but over the last few years I have been able to bring FLOSS products into the fold. Recently the Exec Dir. and I were chatting and he was mentioning how he is considering getting one of the mini-laptop devices to take with him instead of his regular sized laptop. I offered to let him test drive my Asus if he wanted but so far he hasn't taken me up on it. Well...just yesterday we were talking about the new management team coming on board and how we may just end up getting them desktops for the office and then mini-laptops for travel. I couldn't believe my ears. I happen to mention that they are usually Linux-based unless you want to spend a bunch of money on them, but that based on our previous conversation I had already started looking at ways to connect to Exchange, VPN, etc. on those devices. I then joked about us just switching to all Linux instead then there wouldn't be any issues. Well his response was...well I don't know about that....at least right now...SCORE!!! So this rocks....already have some windows based FLOSS products inside (and promoting to external users)...looking at utilizing an open source databse to work with our database....and now... open to linux based laptops and potentially desktops down the road... I will likely post some stuff with regards getting something like thunderbird or evolution working with exchang...possibly blackberries...not sure at this point, but any insights would be welcome. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
