FYI, if you are currently running windows and would like to switch gracefully
you could look at www.wubi-installer.org The site details how to do a network
installation of Ubuntu or Kbuntu with a few simple clicks of a mouse. The end
result is a dual boot system. I've trid this a few times with good results.

Subject: Re: [clug-talk] newbie seeking Ubuntu netbook

First of all, welcome to the Linux user's community.
A few corrections: All major Linux distributions make Linux installation very
very easy and simple. So don't feel limited to Ubuntu when it comes to
installation, unless of course Ubuntu is your distribution of choice.
Since you do not have an optical drive, you will have to put your chosen
distribution (Ubuntu) cd onto a usb flashdrive , This process is either
supported by the distribution , and they offer a usb flashdrive disk image
for download, or you will have to roll your own. Not very difficult, since
there are step by step manuals to guide you through the process.
Linux and Ubuntu are easy to install, the laptop hardness is mostly caused by
hardware incompatibility and your inability to replace the incompatible
hardware ... but generally the situation is good. I cant talk about the MSI
Wind, regarding compatibility. It certainly looks like it will meet the
minimal hardware requirement ... It remains to be seen if your wireless card
will work, and if your graphics will be accelerated.
I can provide you with a good copy of Ubuntu if you care to pick it up, we can
exchange details off list. I am not aware of anyone making Ubuntu or any
other Linux copies available in town (on a Sunday :-) or any other day for
that matter.)
I can also help with creating the usb boot stuff, since you don't have an
optical drive... getting the cd will not solve your problem directly.
You may also want to look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
and select your appropriate iso image. or
maybe check out http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu/download
foe a bit more elaborate desktop experience using KDE instead of Gnome.
or check out Fedora: http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora
It's a much larger distribution with many intresting features.
Also have a look at http://www.mandriva.com/en/download
Mandriva is a luxurious desktop oriented distribution, and incidentally they
have a usb drive image pre-built :-)

Cheers
