I wanted to send to a specific application I was hacking up in pyGTK, but wanted input to be from serial device (which is a barcode scanner) or the local keyboard. So using the Xevents method would be nicest/easiest. I could open the serial port and parse that too, but I'm lazy. The other option is to add a 'dumb serial keyboard' to the xorg.conf, but I can't find out how to that either.....
