I have to disagree with Juan about Windows being easier to use than Linux.
For several decades I worked at a university where XP was installed on all
machines so I could use it as I liked. But I bought my own PC and installed
Linux (initially Mandrake, then Mandriva, now Debian) because:
1. KDE was (is) far, far easier to use than the XP desk top;
2. The apps I needed to get my work done (kile, R, gretl) worked much, much
better with Linux than with XP;
3. Microsoft is a quasi monopoly (I'm an economist so I hate monopoly).
I don't know very much about the technical side of either OS. I just know
which is easier to use and which helps me get my work don.
