If you value your time you will stay away from Slackware. It was a good learning experience, but ultimately it was a PITA to keep current. As a production desktop, knowing you as I do, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere, pretty much anywhere else, even Gentoo :) Of course if this is a purely a learning exercise and you can handle the management overhead, then go for it. Yes there are utilities that behave similarly to apt/yast/yum, but there is no constancy in the packages themselves. I know people who swear by Slackware, maybe they are smarter than I am or have a higher pain threshold. Either way, for anything more than a learning experience I would recommend a different path. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkpi9c8ACgkQwRXgH3rKGfO33QCfWZb1VBL2ZcaBBsmb1/cui/qE /G8AnRaJC7fS2T+MqeIP9i7UZxN8gM2d =iQmO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
