I am trying to create backup copies on a USB drive of my DVD movies. I have a
few movies that play fine in Dragon Player from the DVD. When I use k9copy to
move them to my hard drive (so I can then copy to my USB drive) as an avi file
I get no sound. The original sound is mp2 (so k9copy says). Even as an mpg file
I get no sound. Several other DVDs work properly using the mpeg-4/avi
conversion. mp2 seems to be the culprit, but I can't get around it.

I am running Kubuntu 9.04, using the latest k9copy and Dragonplayer. My system
is an i7-920 with 4Gb DDR3 memory using Pulseaudio (and having a large amount
of trouble with it in Skype). I have two DVD/CD devices - one read only and
one read/write.

I use Amarok and sound is great with mp3s. I use Skype with a Logitech Pro9000
camera/microphone and it works pretty well (some troubles, but it appears to
work now).

When you put in the DVD and get the plugged in device window it offers several
options. One is to use K3b to rip the DVD. This fails with a malformed URL
message showing /dev/sr0 or sr1 as the device. I can't seem to get around this
either.

TIA
