*http://www.clug.ca/* <http://www.clug.ca/> Attention: Vince Carlin Ombudsman P.O. Box 500 Station A Toronto, Ontario Canada M5W 1E6 *[email protected]* <[email protected]> Re: Linux Compatibility of CBC website Mr. Carlin We at CLUG are writing with respect to the accessibility of certain CBC websites to Linux users. Currently video access to the following site is not available to Linux users. *http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows* <http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows> The “official” response to these concerns is: Linux · At this time Linux is not supported. *http://www.cbc.ca/video/help.html#T02*<http://www.cbc.ca/video/help.html#T02> Given the CBC mandate: "...the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as the national public broadcaster, should provide radio and television services incorporating a wide range of programming that informs, enlightens and entertains; ...the programming provided by the Corporation should: 1. be predominantly and distinctively Canadian, reflect Canada and its regions to national and regional audiences, while serving the special needs of those regions, *http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/about/mandate.shtml*<http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/about/mandate.shtml> Not supporting Linux seems inappropriate. The Linux community is dedicated to the supply and support of Open Source software via member directed community organizations dedicated to supplying knowledge and experience. It is in this spirit of making technology accessible to the widest range of people, irrespective of income or location that we seek the participation of the CBC in promoting this goal and supporting Linux software for applications within the CBC website. Yours, A representative of CLUG.
