Here's a second draft:

Dear Mr. Carlin,

I am writing you on behalf of the Calgary Linux Users Group (CLUG), a
non-profit organization dedicated to supporting users of the Linux operating
system and open source software in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Our membership is concerned because the video content on cbc.ca will no
longer play on Linux systems. Seeing as Linux users could previous access
all the CBC content and considering that a majority of video on the web will
play fine on Linux systems, we do not believe that it would be hard for your
IT department to correct the problem. We are aware, however, that a number
of people from across the country have informed the CBC about this issue,
but have been told that nothing will be done to correct the problem.

Given that the CBC has been mandated by parliament for its services to "be
made available throughout Canada by the most appropriate and efficient means
and as resources become available for the purpose," we believe that
excluding Canadians from viewing CBC content based on their choice of
computer operating is antithetical to this mandate and the expectations that
Canadians have about their public broadcaster.

The Linux community is dedicated to the supply and support of open source
software via member directed community organizations dedicated to supplying
knowledge and experience. Open source software is developed by a community
of developers from around the world and is given away for free so that
everyone may have the opportunity to use modern technology to its full
advantage. It is in this spirit of making technology accessible to the
widest range of people, irrespective of income or location, that we seek the
participation of the CBC in promoting this goal and supporting Linux
software for applications within the CBC website.

If you have any questions about our group, or the issue in question, please
don't hesitate to contact me at _____. Many of our members would love to
have this issue resolved and if your staff needs any assistance in sorting
out this problem, I can assure you that we have many information technology
specialists who would be happy to provide any assistance they can.

Sincerely,

President, Calgary Linux Users Group
