Thanx all for the Input thus far. If I would go the virtual way, I have only done it once and it was a complete windows install. Is there a virtual itunes only way to approach this?? My kids get these itunes cards so the only way to redeem them is through itunes. I use songbird myself and am very happy with it its gust getting the music. Im not well versed in that.
If I want to go virtual than are there any good tutorials that you can link to for me to look at and do I need to install windows than access itunes through the virtual windows?? Thanx again for your insights. A quick question for you. I am wanting to put Linux on my home computer for the kids. They have been using Linux on my other computers without a problem except for the deal breaker... I TUNES!!! How or is it even possible to get itunes running and working seamlessly in Linux with out going through a virtual box?? I have done some reading that it could be done in wine but it was an older version and they need the current versions. They are using the 4 and 8 gig units along with the 160g and I touch aswell. Any suggestions?? Also, they want to continue using itunes on both the ipods and as a place to get their tunes aswell. Thanx in advance. I manage to sync my ipod that way without any trouble. You can even set it up to automount your ipod into the windows virtual machine. Make sure to download the closed source version of the Sun site since it has better USB support. Amarok, Rhythmbox, & Songbird all work with ipods. In fact, I would say they are all better than itunes. However you miss out on some important features like Genius playlists, the itunes store, etc... that only work with itunes. :( Anyone else with better ideas? Mike. One is Atunes. I have not used it or really delved deep into but it is essentially set up to be an open source version of iTunes. One that has sparked my interest in the past & that I have used as well on my iPod is called Floola. I believe they have Linux Windows 7 mac versions. It seems to operate like iTunes (which I don' use so...I could be wrong) & the thing I like best is that you can save it right on the device so that no matter what machine you are on it will work for you. The only caveats I have found are that you do need to set the device up on iTunes first & there is some limitations on the hardware that you can use it on. It does ahave a few other features as well, like syncing to Google Calendars & a few others. One more item to note is that it is not open source. * http://www.atunes.org (looks like there are links to others players as well on their page) * http://www.floola.com On 9/8/2010 8:34 PM, mike wrote: > It's not possible to use a recent version of itunes without VirtualBox. :( > > That being said, the USB support through virtualbox is much better > than it used to be.
