It is that same mentality sometimes that leads people to think that McDonald's is gourmet food simply because everyone goes there.

But in a way I can see some sense of logic on their part. If you want to connect the widest possible market...regardless of the product...you need to cater (on some level anyways) to that market.

Plus...there is also the reality that a lot of agencies may not have the expertise to do something, so they rely on "supposed experts" who either only know (or only want to know) one thing or has swallowed the apple (substitute proprietary product) flavoured Kool-Aid. That same Kool-Aid is then used to wash down that gourmet meal at the golden arches.
