I've been using a Logitech USB headset for a few years now and it works
flawlessly on Linux. The latest version of Skype, however, can be a pain in
the ass to get working properly on some systems. On my Ubuntu machine, I
needed to the PulseAudio Volume Control package in order to switch devices.
