> Also LPD should be CUPS. Look for them in the upstart directory > ls -l /etc/init/ | grep -E "lpd|cups" This command returns cups.conf cups.conf has several matches for cups but none for lpd. cops.conf contains a number of commands but they do not look has if they have been run.
======================== > Are you using Ubuntu? When it run the command I still get: dpkg: error processing dcp7065dnlpr (--purge): Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. Errors were encountered while processing: dcp7065dnlpr Nevertheless, after a number of trials and tribulations I managed to get purge to work. Also, the files are removed from /var/lib/dpkg/info. > You should also try to run > sudo service lpd restart > and see if the service command is able to find the script properly. I don't > think it will but it is worth a try. You were right; it didn't work. I got: Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the stop(8) and then start(8) utilities, e.g. stop lpd ; start lpd. The restart(8) utility is also available. start: Unknown job: lpd So now dpkg looks sane but I still can't install my printer.deb file. Also I tried to do an update but it insists it can only be partial. I get the following dependency problems: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libglib2.0-0: Depends: libffi6 (>= 3.0.4) but 3.0.11~rc1-2 is to be installed Depends: libpcre3 (>= 8.10) but 8.12-3ubuntu2 is to be installed Depends: zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.2) but 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3ubuntu3 is to be installed network-manager: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4) but 2.13-20ubuntu5 is to be installed Depends: libdbus-1-3 (>= 1.0.2) but 1.4.14-1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: libdbus-glib-1-2 (>= 0.88) but 0.94-4 is to be installed Depends: libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.24.0) but 2.30.0-0ubuntu4 is to be installed Depends: libgudev-1.0-0 (>= 147) but 1:173-0ubuntu4 is to be installed Depends: libnl3 (>= 3.0) but 3.0-1.1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: libpolkit-gobject-1-0 (>= 0.99) but 0.102-1 is to be installed Depends: upstart-job but it is a virtual package Depends: lsb-base (>= 3.2-14) but 4.0-0ubuntu16 is to be installed Depends: dbus (>= 1.1.2) but 1.4.14-1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: isc-dhcp-client (>= 4.1.1-P1-4) but 4.1.1-P1-17ubuntu10 is to be installed I don't know why I am getting these dependency problems now or see why they might be related to my printer problems. Despite this the system seems willing to let me do an upgrade but I am weary do doing an upgrade until these issues are resolved. I don't understand why Shawn had no problems. He installed my printer using Ubuntu though I don't know which version of Ubuntu he is using. I am using Ubuntu 11.04. Perhaps he is using the 64bit version. In a posting Shawn indicated he also down loaded the file cupswrapperDCP7065DN-2.0.4-2.i386.deb. I thought you were supposed to use the cups file or the lpr file, not both. But it seems that is what Shawn has done. I have also installed cupswrapperDCP7065DN-2.0.4-2.i386.deb now but it doesn't affect my problems with lpd.
