I don't understand why Shawn had no problems. He installed my printer using Ubuntu though I don't know which version of Ubuntu he is using. I am using Ubuntu 11.04. Perhaps he is using the 64bit version.
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with the KDE Desktop environment installed.
In a posting Shawn indicated he also down loaded the file cupswrapperDCP7065DN-2.0.4-2.i386.deb. I thought you were supposed to use the cups file or the lpr file, not both. But it seems that is what Shawn has done.
The cupswrapper was for the printer, the second file was for the scanner. It wasn't until I had installed both did it occur to me that I may not have needed the second file - I didn't test the scanner between installs...
I have also installed cupswrapperDCP7065DN-2.0.4-2.i386.deb now but it doesn't affect my problems with lpd.
With the cupswrapper installed, you should be able to add the printer through the normal printer management interface (select Brother's DCP-7065dn from the printer list), then print and maybe scan.
