I am in the market for either a monitor or a TV and I want a device which will
basically do everything.

My biggest interest is a monitor. I typically run 2048x768 on twin heads but I
have cards which can support up to four (4) heads. I'm running currently about
one of the smallest fonts there is and I'm usually in BASH. In fact I don't
really like a GUI.

Next what I would like to do is be able to bring in a TV signal.

My question is will the current 1080p TV's do the same job as a monitor?

If the specs are as I think they are then the answer should be yes. 1080p
should be 1080p regardless if there is a TV tuner and other junk in the thing
or not!

What this means is that I should forget a monitor and simply buy a TV which has
a rating of 1080p. Then with this I have the ability to drive the TV from say
a VCR tape and I _should_ be able to pick up the outputs and burn it to a DVD
and after that if I wish I should be able to read the DVD in the computer and
later edit it and the same device works as a monitor.

Am I missing something?

A 27" Viewsonic monitor running 1080p at BestBuy is $370. They sell a 32" TV
with dual HDMI interfaces for about $400.

So why would I want to buy the monitor?
