Got home tired, saw some updates, clicked install and 30 seconds too late "Oh
shit" firefox

I have been hearing dire warning about firefox 57 some even from firefox itself
but
was naive about implications. ass-u-me that they would give some upgrade
protections? - WRONG

My malfunction was the session manager addon.
I use it to save windows sets for various research
purposes shopping, medical, game play, etc

after installing firefox 57  started in a profile and
no session manager **** or path to the saved session sets ****

reverted to firefox 56 and after restart,
all my saved sessions were wiped in that profile by firefox 57!
however, in a different profile not touched from firefox 57
its saved sessions were present

I had to restore the "touched (or cursed)" profile from a backup earlier in the
day

My Two Cents
============

If and when you upgrade to firefox 57

1) make sure to have saved the latest firefox 56 in case you want to restore
firefox_56.0+linuxmint1+rosa_amd64.deb in my Mint

2) backup up your firefox profile directories
under ~/.mozilla/firefox in my Mint

3) first create a test profile, say dunsil like the Star Trek dummy
and only use that one until you feel pretty comfy with function, addons and
protections

4) btw noscript is still 1 to ??? days away from release for firefox 57
but ghostery is good to go. replacements for other beloved addons vary
but didn't see any migration tools to pull info from the beloved legacy
addons they were targeted to replace/upgrade

Like instructions to cage fighters:  Protect yourselves at all times.

Happy Hunting, Chris
