Joe: Laptops + Linux is always a bit of a hit and miss game. This may not be very helpful but have you looked at System 76 (https://system76.com/laptops ) laptops at all? I run their Linux distro and its very good (its ubuntu based).
At the very least it may be worth a look. Hope it helps.
